Work officially started Friday on a new international airport in Durban to cope with the expected influx of tourists for the 2010 World Cup. Transport Minister Jeff Radebe said that the new airport would be able to handle 7.5 million passengers annually and accommodate long-haul and new generation aircraft — which the current airport in the Indian Ocean coastal city cannot do.

The Curonian Spit is a 98-km long, thin, curved sand-dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. It stretches from the Sambian Peninsula to the south. The width of the spit varies from a minimum of 400 m in Russia to a maximum of 3,8 km in Lithuania.
